Vacancy number 2026-05

Rutgers is the Dutch centre of knowledge and expertise on sexual health. We provide young people with the reliable information, tools and support they need to make informed choices about their bodies, health and well-being. We promote the knowledge, values and rights that protect and support them. Through research, evidence-based interventions and public education, we empower young people to take control of their sexual health and wellbeing – now and in the future. We promote respectful and positive social norms that protect them from discrimination and violence, and build societies in which they can grow up healthy, safe and free. We do this in the Netherlands, Europe and worldwide.

Our organisation is made up of over 70 passionate professionals in the Netherlands. Would you like to help us realise our ambitions? Do you enjoy supporting projects and are you adept with digital tools? Are you also service-oriented, proactive and looking for a varied and challenging role?

To achieve our ambitious goals in the areas of communication and fundraising, we are looking for a Communications and Marketing Officer. In this role, you will support colleagues in (online) marketing and communication and liaise with professionals and designers to ensure various materials and products are delivered attractively and on time. Do you enjoy variety, collaboration and getting things done? Then this job is perfect for you!

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working in the Brand & Activation team with 12 other colleagues. Together, you’ll contribute to stopping sexual misconduct, improving relationship and sex education in schools, providing accurate information on contraception and abortion care, and sharing our knowledge about sexuality and relationships.

As a communications and marketing officer, you’ll be the supporting backbone of our communications and marketing team. You’ll work alongside colleagues, professionals and designers, helping to implement our communications plans. You’ll step in and lend a hand wherever you’re needed.

Specifically, you’ll be working on the following:

  • You will support the implementation of our communication strategy and plans relating to the themes of education, health and safety.

  • You will be responsible for keeping the CRM system (Microsoft Engage, ClickDimensions and iFunds) up to date and managing it, ensuring data remains well organised. This includes donor administration such as processing cancellations, updating and entering donations.

  • You will assist with ongoing lead generation and (fundraising) newsletters

  • You will help organise communications regarding (online) events and take on any tasks that arise.

  • You will oversee the design and printing process for various materials. You are able to design something yourself in Canva or Photoshop, or are keen to learn how.

  • You will support communication for our online learning portal and manage customer service

  • You will manage multiple email inboxes and ensure that enquiries are directed to the right place and dealt with in a timely manner.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an independent and service-oriented colleague who enjoys working collaboratively and providing support. You enjoy getting hands-on with (online) communication and marketing and can keep track of things when multiple tasks are happening simultaneously. You have an affinity for digital tools and feel comfortable in a supporting and organising role.

In addition, you have an interest in topics such as sexual rights and health, and you consider it important to contribute to Rutgers’ social mission. You keep up to date with developments in the field of communication and online marketing, and you enjoy representing Rutgers and its programmes in a positive and accessible way.

You are enthusiastic about Rutgers’ work and meet the following criteria:

  • You have a higher vocational education (HBO) level of working and thinking, acquired through education or experience.

  • You have at least one year’s work experience in the field of online marketing

  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English

  • You show initiative, are hands-on, flexible and sociable, and can keep a clear overview, even when things get hectic;

  • You are completely at home in the online world and enjoy designing online journeys;

  • Experience with Microsoft Engage and ClickDimensions is an advantage;

  • You have an affinity with our themes (relationship and sexual education, prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, contraception and safe abortion care) and are interested in exploring these further;

  • You possess excellent communication skills.

Are you enthusiastic about the role but still learning in one or more of these areas? Then please do apply, and explain how this role fits in with your development and ambitions.
