Vacancy number 2026-06

Rutgers is the Dutch centre of knowledge and expertise on sexual health. We provide young people with the reliable information, tools and support they need to make informed choices about their bodies, health and well-being. We promote the knowledge, values and rights that protect and support them. Through research, evidence-based interventions and public education, we empower young people to take control of their sexual health and wellbeing – now and in the future. We promote respectful and positive social norms that protect them from discrimination and violence, and build societies in which they can grow up healthy, safe and free. We do this in the Netherlands, Europe and worldwide.

Our organisation is made up of over 70 passionate professionals in the Netherlands. Would you like to help us realise our ambitions? Do you enjoy supporting projects and are you adept with digital tools? Are you also service-oriented, proactive and looking for a varied and challenging internship.

About the job

During your placement, you will be working with the Alliance for Personalised Healthcare. This alliance is a collaboration between Rutgers, COC Netherlands and Women Inc. You will assist in developing knowledge products for healthcare education, contribute ideas on how we can implement these, and support researchers in their work.

What is the Alliance for Tailored Healthcare?

Good healthcare starts by putting people first, with an eye for differences in sex, gender, sexual orientation and age. These differences help determine how people experience health and care and can influence recovery and well-being. Yet this approach is still far from being the norm in practice.

That is why WOMEN Inc., Rutgers and COC Netherlands have launched the Personalised Healthcare Alliance. As an intern, you will contribute to various projects within the alliance in the fields of healthcare education, professionals and research.

Your tasks will include:

  • Developing knowledge products and packages for healthcare education;

  • Implementing various interventions and products of the Personalised Healthcare Alliance;

  • Developing a factsheet on diversity in sex, gender and sexual orientation and intersectionality;

  • Assisting with research (such as conducting interviews, helping with focus groups and literature reviews);

  • You will work within the Alliance’s professionals working group and carry out additional tasks.

You will be offered an educational placement where you will gain experience in various aspects of intervention development, knowledge development, implementation and research. You will not do this alone, but as part of the Alliance’s team (comprising colleagues from the three different organisations).

During your placement at Rutgers, you will be part of the Health programme team. You will also participate in meetings and presentations organises by Rutgers' Programme and Expertise Unit, giving you a good understanding of the field and the broader context.

About you

  • You are studying for a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social, behavioural or health sciences, or a comparable field, or are following a higher professional education (HBO) course in the same field

  • You have an affinity with inclusive care and diversity in sex, gender and sexual orientation

  • You have a good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written

  • You are a go-getter who can work independently

  • You are curious about different opinions and perspectives

  • You work meticulously
